As a child or an adult learning to play any instrument, one of the most important things is being able to share your joy of playing with others. This joy of sharing music was the inspiration behind this series of books. The duets in this book are aimed mainly at players around Grade 1 level. All the tunes (Clarsach 1) can be played by relative beginners. Part 2 may be played by a pupil at a similar stage or by the teacher.

Playing with your teacher allows the student to hear more depth in a simple tune than they themselves are able to play at this stage, thereby allowing them to experience more complex harmonies. The whole is greater than the sum of the two individual parts. Playing with others is an important part of becoming a musician - it teaches the child to listen and respond, to anticipate, to think of calling and answering phrases.

I should say a little about the choice of pieces in this book. Most are well known nursery rhymes that were a part of my childhood, but Grace's Adventures was written after walking my lovely chocolate labrador in woods near my home, and The Ferris Wheel after spending an afternoon at the Winter Wonderland in Edinburgh, a truly magical time! I have included the words for those that are usually sung as singing can help with interpretation. Try and make the music come alive and sing along with your playing too if you want!!

I hope you enjoy playing together and sharing your musical journey.
