A0110-CD: The Best of Côr Cochion

The Best of Côr Cochion by Côr Cochion Caerdydd

CD Cover"Best of Côr Cochion" is a selection of the best tracks from Côr Cochion's (Cardiff Reds Choir) 6 cassettes. It includes songs from the struggle against Apartheid, in solidarity with Latin America, and for trade union rights, notably the Miners' Strike of 1984-5 from which the first selection comes. Côr Cochion is Wales' foremost campaigning choir. Since 1983 their unique sound has been heard on the streets of Cardiff, throughout Wales, in Ireland, Palestine, and Europe, singing in support of the struggle against Apartheid, for justice in Latin America and Ireland, and for trade union rights : "wherever people struggle, there is my native land".

CD Notes & Credits

Sleeve Notes (also in Welsh in CD booklet)

Côr Cochion Caerdydd (Cardiff Reds Choir) came together in 1983, when events in Chile, South Africa, and at home in Wales demanded that they use their voices in protest. Since then, they have raised many thousands of pounds and campaigned in support of peace, justice and freedom in Britain and around the world. They are a familiar sight collecting as they sing on the streets of Cardiff, on picket lines, demonstrations and in concerts. Their repertoire of a cappella songs for mixed voices ranges from traditional favourites (often revamped hymn tunes) to arrangements from the Arabic and contemporary protest songs.

This collection of songs comes from their first six cassettes.
The conductor on all these recordings was John Abraham.

Lyrics - The lyrics to the songs on the CD are inluded in the CD booklet but are not repoduced here. They are also available on line at the choirs own web site
