This arrangement of Happy Birthday was originally intended to have its first performance on Eira Lynn Jones’ birthday on 15th March 2020, when I was due to be taking an ensemble workshop at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Unfortunately, the world changed somewhat dramatically, and the workshop (along with uncountable numbers of other events since then) never took place.

However, birthdays will continue, as will our indefatigable optimism in the face of gloom, so whether you’re performing this as part of a virtual ensemble, or in person with other harpists in a new, improved “normality”, I wish you lots of joy - and many happy returns to the birthday girl or boy...
