Born in Paris in 1961, Nicolas BACRI is today the composer of more than ninety compositions, including six symphonies, six cantatas, five string quartets, more than fifty concertante works, three trios with piano and several sonatas for violin and for cello. A pupil of Louis Saguer he also benefited from the advice of Elliott Carter and Henri Dutilleux. After a First Prize for composition in 1983 at the Paris Conservatory (in the classes of Serge Nigg and Michel Philippot) he was awarded residence at the Academie de France in Rome (Villa Medici) for two years. After working for Radio France for four years as artistic delegate in the chamber music department, he devoted himself once more to composition full time and was awarded residence at the Casa Velazquez in Madrid (1991-1993). Since 1982 Nicolas Bacri has regularly received commissions from Radio France, the French Min­ istry of Culture and many orchestras, soloists and festivals. For his music as a whole he has won various prizes: 'Stephane Chapelier' (SACEM), Andre Caplet' (Academie des Beaux-Arts), 'Pineau-Chaillou' (City of Nantes), 'Herve Dugardin' (SACEM), Prize ofthe Acattemie du Disque 1993, 'Georges Wildenstein' (Beaux-Arts), 'Pierre Cardin' (Beaux-Arts), 'Claude Arrieu' (SACEM) and is a laureate of the Credit National Business Foundation (Natexis Banque Populaire), thanks to which he finished his monumental Third Symphony (Sinfonia da Requiem for mezzo-soprano, chorus and orchestra). From 1993 to 1999 he was invited by the Association 'Pour Que I'Esprit Vive' to a residence in the old Cistercian abbey of La Pree (Indre). He currently lives in Bayonne.
