Photo: Michel Tirabosco (pan flute) & Nathalie Chatelain (harp) Ralf Kleemann grew up with music, studying classical & jazz piano, singing in choirs, playing and touring with various formations. He then fell in love with the Celtic harp and has since been developing his very own harp music style.

Ralf Kleemann presents traditional European and Celtic music with a fresh spirit and unexpected turns. Next to well-known standards, his program consists of a growing number of his own original compositions. In these, historical motifs and modern melodies are weaved into new, vivid arrangements. The artist always leaves plenty of room for following spontaneous impulses and playing with the actual sound of his harp, so that the audience can discover this rare instrument from a completely new angle.

With “Tides,” Ralf Kleemann presents his second solo album with New Celtic Harp music. Inspired by the very positive feedback that he received for his first album, “Phrydotia,” he concentrated more and more on developing his very own music. “Tides” features 12 pieces, new and of their own kind, that display the full character of the Celtic harp. “Tides” was inspired by the Irish Atlantic coast, in whose vicinity he lived for the past five years before moving back to Germany recently.

Ralf teaches Celtic harp and holds classes and workshops about Arrangement, Improvisation and Jazz. He has regularly been part of international music festivals in Germany, France and Switzerland.

Other projects include recording harps and other instruments in acoustic environments, and some harp building endeavours, developing a new type of pedal harp.
